SUDBURY, ON, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - Laurentian University students will be
demonstrating Wednesday morning to stop proposed tuition fee increases.
What: Laurentian University 'stop tuition fee hikes' demonstration
When: Wednesday, December 12, 2007
7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Where: near the Paris Street Bridge in Sudbury
Students will provide information about the unaffordable tuition fees and
student debt to community members. Representatives of the Association des
étudiantes et étudiants francophones (AEF), Students General Association
(SGA), and Laurentian Association of Mature and Part-time Students (LAMPS),
and Laurentian University Graduate Students' Association (GSA) will be present
to provide comments.
Laurentian University students are especially outraged about the
University's fee increase plans this year because the Board of Governors has
strategically scheduled the vote to take place during the fall exam session.
The consideration of the annual operating budget and decision on tuition fees
is happening months earlier than usual while many students will be busy
studying or will have already left campus for the mid-year holiday.
