A unique event bringing young people together and motivating them to get
more active and to eat better
BOUCHERVILLE, QC, Feb. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited
to a press conference that will give a rousing kick off to the first ever
edition of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, to be held on Thursday, February 5,
at Studio Mel's 3 - Cité du cinéma.
To inaugurate this first edition, Pierre Lavoie has brought together some
of most important players from the business world and the health sector.
Cycling side by side with Pierre Lavoie will be none other than the Minister
of Health and Social Services of Québec, Yves Bolduc; the president of the
Québec Federation of Medical Specialists, Dr. Gaétan Barrette; and the
Director of Public Health of Québec, Alain Poirier. We are pleased to announce
that Mr. Pierre Boivin, President of the Montreal Canadiens Hockey Club and
the Gillet Entertainment Group has agreed to be the special guest sponsor of
the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie. Guy Authier, Vice president, Rio Tinto Alcan,
Primary Metal, Quebec South and United States will join Mr. Boivin in
launching this major event as the lead sponsor.
This will be a great opportunity for journalists to get a firsthand look
at the key stages of the project whose mission is, first and foremost, to
encourage young people to adopt healthy living habits.
Background information about the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie
In 1999, Pierre Lavoie embarked on the first défi Pierre in
Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean to raise awareness about lactic acidosis, a disease
that afflicted two of his children, and to raise money for research. The event
was renamed the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie for this edition and for the next two
rounds already planned in the near future.
