    Canada Gairdner Awards 50th Anniversary throughout 2009.

    TORONTO, Jan. 7 /CNW/ -

    -   21 Nobel Prize winners among 50+ Gairdner awardees coming to Toronto
        for wide-ranging program of public and academic lectures and
        seminars, October 28-30, 2009.

    -   Newly-named "Canada Gairdner Awardees" announced on Tuesday,
        March 31, 2009 in Toronto. Each recipient to receive $100,000, up
        from $30,000 in previous years.

    -   In addition to the National Program, which will be held in 14 centres
        across Canada, the largest and most important series of science
        symposia ever held in Canada will mark the Gairdners' 50th
        anniversary. Held in eight cities between March and November, each
        will feature the very best international and Canadian scientists in
        their field.

    -   High School Lectures. The Gairdners will expand its lectures given by
        Gairdner awardees to top high school science students across the
        country. This coming year, the lectures will be presented in 14
        cities, including Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo, Hamilton, London,
        Kingston, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, St John's, Halifax
        and Montreal.
