Winner to be revealed live, on-air during CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA
TORONTO, March 31 /CNW/ - The search for Canada's most spirited hockey
community is back in the hands of hockey-crazed Canadians as KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE
2008 gets ready to crown this year's winner. The first place community will
receive a prize package that includes a 2008/09 NHL pre-season game played at
their community arena, a visit from CBC's HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA and
$100,000 towards arena upgrades from Kraft Canada. The four runner-up
communities will also be awarded $20,000 towards arena upgrades from Kraft.
The crowning achievement will be shown, on April 8 at 7:00 p.m. local during
CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA: Playoff Preview 2008, a special presentation of
the 2008 NHL Playoffs.
Canadians are encouraged to vote online (www.cbcsports.ca/hockeyville) or
via telephone (1-888-843-5604) for their favourite KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE
2008 finalist, even if their hometown isn't in the running. Voting began
Saturday, March 29 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Online voters have until Friday,
April 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Telephone voters have until Sunday, April 6 at
11:00 a.m. ET. Audience voters may select one community per on-line session or
per telephone call. Voting is unlimited.
The final five contenders for KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE 2008 are:
- Port aux Basques, NL (representing Atlantic region)
- Roberval, QC (representing Québec region)
- Kingsville, ON (representing Ontario region)
- Wilcox, SK (representing Western region)
- Pilot Mound, MB (wild card)
"As we enter the final stage of this year's competition, it's vital that
members from each of the top five communities encourage as many people as they
can to vote for their submission," said Dino Bianco, President, Kraft Canada.
"Tell your neighbours, friends and family and get all of them to vote and
support your entry."
Since the competition began on December 1, 2007, over 1,100 submissions
poured in from coast-to-coast-to-coast, smashing previous records and making
KRAFT HOCKEYVILLE 2008 the most successful competition to date.
Over 1.7 million people voted to select the top five communities from a
list of top 10 communities during the initial selection phase of KRAFT
HOCKEYVILLE 2008 - once again breaking previous records. Please visit
