Media advisory - Kenora rocks to bring home importance of public services and problems with privatization



    KENORA, ON, July 22 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Union of Public Employees
(CUPE) Ontario will hold a media conference this Wednesday, July 23 at
2:30 p.m. in Kenora to outline how specific privatization and contracting out
issues are threatening the quality of local public services, particularly in
the health care and municipal sectors.
    This media conference falls on the same day as CUPE Ontario hosts a free
rock concert with Trooper in Kenora to highlight the need to preserve public
services that are the bedrock of strong communities.
    At the media conference, CUPE Ontario Vice-President Candace Rennick, as
well as local representatives, will address how contracting out is threatening
good jobs in the region, particularly in view of the decline of good jobs in
forestry and manufacturing.
