Media Advisory - IOC President Jacques Rogge to visit the RONA Vancouver 2010 Fabrication Shop on February 28

VANCOUVER, Feb. 27 /CNW/ - International Olympic Committee (IOC)
President Jacques Rogge will make a special visit to the RONA Vancouver 2010
Fabrication Shop, Thursday, February 28, as part of his three-day review and
working session with the IOC's Coordination Commission for the 2010 Winter
Games.
President Rogge will tour the Fabrication Shop at 9:15 am tomorrow and
media are invited to take part in a photo opportunity. The tour will include a
premiere screening of a RONA Vancouver 2010 Fabrication Shop video. The video
was produced with support from Intersections Media, an organization that
provides mentoring, training and experience in film and video production for
youth with limited access to resources.
Following the tour, members of the media will have an opportunity to
interview President Rogge during the IOC Coordination Commission closing press
conference, taking place at the VANOC offices at 12 noon, as outlined in the
details below.
RONA and Vancouver 2010 have partnered with community organizations to
launch the Fabrication (Fab) Shop. What sets this Fab Shop apart is the
development and delivery of a community-based training program. The 30-week
program provides carpentry skills training and supported job experience to
individuals who have yet to successfully enter the workforce. Over the next
two years, the Fab Shop team will build a wide variety of unique items for the
Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, including medal podiums,
wheelchair ramps, sports racks, signage, warming huts, fencing, commentator
positions and more.
