Media Advisory - Investigative and Forensic Accounting Conference Being Held in Toronto (September 14-15, 2009)

TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - Forensic accounting is like going to a magic
show and being interested in only how the trick was performed. Forensic
Accountants use their professional accounting skills, investigative skills and
an investigative mindset to perform a variety of functions in many different
situations.
The "2009 Investigative and Forensic Accounting Conference" is a major
event for investigative and forensic accounting practitioners. Chartered
Accountants and other professionals in business, industry and government will
be attending the two-day national gathering.
The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) established the
Alliance for Excellence in Investigative and Forensic Accounting (IFA
Alliance) in 1998 to implement a specialist certification program for
Chartered Accountants practising in investigative and forensic accounting. The
upcoming conference is a presentation of the IFA Alliance.
This year's conference features two high-profile guests. Well-known
Canadian lawyer Edward Greenspan will be giving the key note address on the
first morning. The second morning will see the Honourable Justice Stephen
Goudge speak on the "Expert Witness - A View from the Bench". He recently
served as Commissioner of the Inquiry into Pediatric Forensic Pathology in
Ontario.
'Hot' topics at this conference include data-hacking, a session
identifying how data is stolen and "The Criminal Use of Gemstones", a
presentation that will highlight some of the exploitation opportunities
associated with the sector. Additional information, including a full list of
speakers and presentations, can be found on the conference website
(www.cpd.cica.ca/iafa).
