TORONTO, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - Today, human remains were found at the Toronto
Historic Don Jail as part of an archeological assessment being conducted on
behalf of Bridgepoint Health as part of our site redevelopment plan.
Bridgepoint Health is the current owner of the jail and committed to its
conservation and adaptive re-use as part of the site redevelopment.
The current archeological assessment has been underway for the past week
in accordance with the Heritage Agreement associated with the purchase of the
Bridgepoint is committed to ensuring that all protocols and procedures
associated with the findings of the human remains are followed and dealt with
respectfully. The police, the Coroner, and the Registrar of the Cemeteries
Branch have been notified.
Marian Walsh, President and CEO of Bridgepoint Health and Ron Williamson,
Managing Partner and Chief Archeologist, Archaeological Services Inc., will be
available to answer questions about the finding tomorrow morning.
