Media advisory - HMCS Halifax visits Montreal



    HALIFAX, April 18 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commanding Officer and ship's
company of Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Halifax are pleased to announce that
the ship and her crew will be visiting the city of Montreal from 20 to
24 April 2007. The ship will arrive at the Old Port at 10 a.m. on April 20,
and will berth at Pier 12 (Alexandra Basin) and will be leaving on
Tuesday April 24 in the morning. HMCS Halifax will then be heading to Kingston
and her schedule includes Toronto, Oshawa, Hamilton, Port Weller, Thunder Bay,
Windsor and Quebec City.

    
    The following events will take place during the ship's visit in Montreal:

    Friday 20 April:
    ----------------
    10 a.m. - Arrival of ship at Pier 12 (Alexandra Basin).

    Saturday 21 April:
    ------------------
    10 a.m. - Enrollment Ceremony of new members of the Canadian Forces;
    1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Ship open to visitors, recruitment kiosk and military
                       equipment.

    Sunday 22 April:
    -----------------
    10 a.m. - Crew members from HMCS Halifax will visit the Montreal
              Children Hospital;
    1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Ship open to visitors, recruitment kiosk and military
                       equipment.

    Monday 23 April:
    ----------------
    10 a.m. - Swearing Ceremony of new Canadian citizens onboard the ship;
    1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Ship open to visitors.

    Tuesday 24 April:
    -----------------
    10 a.m. - Departure.


    Facts on HMCS Halifax

    - In the wake of 9/11, HMCS Halifax was the first ship of a subsequent
      six-warship Canadian naval task group to arrive in the Arabian Gulf;
    - HMCS Halifax is a Halifax class frigate designed and built in Canada;
    - She was the first of its Class;
    - A modern and well-equipped vessel, these ships are designed to act
      independently or as part of a larger force.
