TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ - Campbell Company of Canada is partnering with the
Canadian Association of Food Banks (CAFB) to Help Hunger Disappear(TM) on
National Hunger Awareness Day, June 5, 2008.
More than 720,000 Canadians rely on a food bank each month and 39 per
cent are children. To raise awareness of this critical issue and provide
visual reinforcement, Campbell Canada is creating a high impact installation
of the word "HUNGER" constructed out of 12,000 soup cans in Toronto at RioCan
Yonge-Eglinton Centre (northwest corner of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue)
on National Hunger Awareness Day.
Members of the public and media are invited to take down a can to Help
Hunger Disappear(TM) and donate it to the Canadian Association of Food Banks.
Each letter will be 6 feet high and 4 feet wide. The entire "HUNGER"
installation will be approximately 32 feet across. Each letter contains
approximately 2,000 cans. This event is part of a larger initiative to donate
a total of 100,000 cans to the CAFB over the summer months - a time when
donations are typically low. The cans donated at the event will be in addition
to this target.
Representatives from the Canadian Association of Food Banks and Campbell
Company of Canada will be on site for comment and interviews.
