Media advisory - Health and community care workers to rally at Legislature



    HALIFAX, Nov. 21 /CNW/ - A coalition of the province's health care unions
will hold a march and rally this Thursday, November 22 at the provincial
legislature.
    They will be protesting the MacDonald government's plans to bring forward
legislation that bans health care strikes. Both opposition parties have said
they will not support the bill.

    The event will unfold as follows:

    
    1:00 pm   Health care workers will gather at Parade Square

    1:30 pm   March to Province House with police escort

    2:00 pm   Throne Speech expected to commence
    

    (ATTENTION ASSIGNMENT/PHOTO EDITORS: From 2:00 to 3:00 pm, when the
Lieutenant Governor is expected to be speaking, protesters will be listening
to speeches behind the Legislature and marching around the facility. Out of
respect for the Lieutenant Governor, noisemakers will not be used during this
one-hour period.)

    The coalition consists of seven unions, including the NSGEU (Nova Scotia
Government Employees Union), CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees), NSNU
(Nova Scotia Nurses Union), CAW (Canadian Auto Workers Union), IUOE
(International Union of Operating Engineers), SEIU (Service Employees
International Union) and CUPW (Canadian Union of Postal Workers).
