Media Advisory - From Kandahar to Quebec - Valcartier Soldiers back home

VALCARTIER GARRISON, March 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Approximately sixty soldiers
from Valcartier, members of the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT),
will be back from Afghanistan on March 8, 2007, at 8:30 P.M.
Media representatives are invited to attend the arrival of the soldiers,
including that of OMLT Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Marc Lanthier.
During six months, members of OMLT have offered mentoring to the Afghan
National Army (ANA), conducted operations with the ANA, and done operational
liaison and coordination between ANA and Coalition forces. In doing so, they
contributed to improve the capacities of ANA to manage the security within its
own borders, an important step towards autonomy.

    Date/Time: Thursday March 8, 2007, 8:30 P.M.
    Location: Jean Lesage International Airport

The actions done now to generate a training structure and train the
Afghan Army will contribute to the complete overtaking of the security tasks
in the country by the Afghan Army in support to their government in the
future. Moreover, the OMLT was the first significant group, organized and
prepared for this specific task, sent from Valcartier to Afghanistan to
achieve this goal.
Canada is in Afghanistan at the request of the democratically elected
government, along with 36 other nations, and as part of a UN-sanctioned
mission to help build a stable, democratic, and self-sufficient society.
