Media Advisory - Economic Confidence Being Rebuilt at the Spring 2009 Co-Investment Summit

TORONTO, May 19 /CNW/ - The National Angel Capital Organization (NACO)
and the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University will bring
together more than 300 Angel investors and stakeholders from across Canada at
the Ted Rogers School of Management, Canada's largest undergraduate business
school, to co-invest in 15 of Canada's highest-potential early-stage companies
seeking top-up financing rounds. Speakers at the Summit will include:

    - The Honourable Michael Bryant, Minister of Economic Development
    - Sheldon Levy, President & Vice-Chancellor, Ryerson University

"The finest expression of economic confidence around is the decision of
Angel investors to entrust their capital and their attention to entrepreneurs
with bold ideas," said W. Daniel Mothersill, president of NACO and
Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Management. "This
Summit shows that Angels are going further to fill the gap left by venture
capital, even in these tough times, by co-investing at later stages in larger
rounds."
Angels are the economic engine of commercialization, investing almost
three times as much as venture capital in early-stage Canadian companies ($2.2
billion versus $871 million), and becoming a distinct asset class in their own
right, increasingly organized, formalized and professional.
