Media advisory - Durham School Board workers stage 'Stop the Cuts' rally Tuesday



    OSHAWA, ON, June 9 /CNW Telbec/ - Durham District School Board workers,
represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will hold a
'Stop the Cuts' rally at 5:00 pm, Tuesday, June 10, to urge school board
trustees to reject plans to cut 19 educational assistant (EA) positions that
will undermine the quality of education for special needs students in Durham.

                      Whitby, Ontario
    

    The rally will take place outside the Durham District School Board head
office, where school trustees are scheduled to discuss the EA cuts and approve
the school budget for next year.

    CUPE 218 represents over 2,500 school board workers, including 893 EAs,
with the Durham District School Board. The school board is planning to cut
19 highly qualified EAs by September, and possibly 27 more next year.
