GATINEAU, QC, Sept. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Workers at the Museum of
Civilization and the War Museum will hold a demonstration to expose the "real
monster" at the Museum of Civilization - the unfair and unjust working
conditions that CEO Dr. Victor Rabinovitch refuses to fix.
The 420 workers at the Museum of Civilization and War Museum have no job
security and no recognition of their years of service in a number of critical
areas. In some cases, their salaries are 40 per cent lower than those of other
museum workers in the National Capital Region.
Represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the workers are
seeking the same working conditions as other employees performing similar work
in the Ottawa/Gatineau.
On August 27, the workers voted 92 per cent in favour of taking strike
action if necessary. They are hopeful that the Canadian Museum of Civilization
Corporation will take their concerns seriously, so they can avoid a strike and
restore national pride in the two prestigious museums.
