MONTREAL, Oct. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Tomorrow, Thursday, October 4, 2007,
Dawson College and the Université de Sherbrooke, in partnership with Beijing
Normal University, will inaugurate the Confucius Institute in Quebec, now a
part of the 150 Confucius Institute-network around the world.
Media is invited to the inauguration in the presence of the Premier of
Quebec, Jean Charest, and Lu Shumin, the Ambassador to Canada from the
Peoples' Republic of China.
The emergence of countries such as China, India and Brasil offers an
unequalled opportunity to establish new academic, scientific and cultural
links. Chosen from among a number of postsecondary institutions in Quebec,
Dawson College and the Université de Sherbrooke have sought to reinforce
academic cooperation between Canada and China.
The Confucius Institute in Quebec will develop courses and programs for
the teaching of Chinese to train a new generation of Chinese teachers at the
primary, secondary and college level. The Institute will also work toward
building programs to foster a better understanding of the culture, language
and achievements of the Chinese people.
