National secretary-treasurer Claude Généreux flying in from Ottawa to
COURTENAY, BC, Sept. 15 /CNW/ - CUPE National secretary-treasurer Claude
Généreux will be on hand as the Canadian Union of Public Employees celebrates
the launch of its new Comox Valley area office with a grand opening on
Wednesday evening (September 17).
CUPE's spacious new headquarters, located at No. 6 - 204 North Island
Highway in Courtenay, are environmentally designed to be healthy and easy to
clean, with plenty of natural light. The office, bought by CUPE from an
existing building, has been completely renovated after two separate business
units were gutted and combined. It features a large, multi-use, multi-media
training/meeting room, a kitchen, storage space, washroom facilities and a
separate entrance. Other space in the office is leased from CUPE by its health
services division, the Hospital Employees' Union.
In addition to Généreux, who is flying in from Ottawa for the opening,
members from all 10 CUPE area locals and 18 work site units, as well as
regional office staff from Burnaby, will be attending the event. Hosted by
CUPE National representative Trish Mack, the grand opening will run from 5-7
CUPE's Comox Valley area services Powell River on the Mainland and the
Comox Valley, Campbell River, Port Alice, Port Hardy and Gold River on the
Island. Area CUPE members work for school districts and a school bus company,
municipalities, regional districts, public libraries, a college, and
associations for assisted living.
