Media advisory - CUPE Nova Scotia to hold 2007 convention in Yarmouth



    YARMOUTH, NS, April 20 /CNW/ - CUPE Nova Scotia will hold its 44rd annual
convention in Yarmouth, Sunday, April 22 through Wednesday, April 25 at the
Rodd Grand Hotel. More than 150 delegates from CUPE locals around the province
are expected to attend.
    The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canada's largest union,
representing over half-a-million working women and men across the country,
including almost 16,000 here in Nova Scotia. Convention proceedings will get
underway at 9:30 am, April 23.

    - Darrell Dexter, N.S. NDP Leader (April 23rd , 10:30 a.m.)

    - Paul Moist, CUPE National President (April 23rd, 1:30 p.m.)

    - Rick Clarke, President Nova Scotia Federation of Labour (April 24th,
      11:30 a.m.)

    - Claude Genereux, CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer (April 24th, 1:30
      p.m.)
    

    Among the issues being discussed and debated at convention will be the
recent provincial budget, further privatization of health care and other
public services, other forms of privatization and contracting out - like P3's
- and the ongoing fight to establish a public child care system across the
country.
