Media advisory - CUPE National leaders join 'It's about time' rally for Durham school board workers Tuesday



    OSHAWA, ON, March 26 /CNW Telbec/ - CUPE National President Paul Moist
and National Secretary Treasurer Claude Généreux will lead a solidarity rally
for striking Durham Public School Board workers on Tuesday, March 27, at
3:00 pm, to highlight the main issue of the strike - crushing workloads. The
rally, 'It's about time', will focus on the workload and time challenges
custodial and maintenance workers, educational assistants (EAs) and office,
clerical and technical staff face everyday as a result of the school board's
failure to address population growth and provincial underfunding.

    "This strike is a fight for more time with students," said Moist. "These
workers can stand strong, knowing they are supported by over half a million
CUPE members across Canada." The 2,100 school board workers have been on
strike since Wednesday, March 21. "We are committed to this fight to improve
the quality of education services for students," said Généreux. "As CUPE
national secretary-treasurer, I can tell the school board that CUPE will
support this Local in their struggle, as long as it takes, to win more time to
do their jobs."
