Media Advisory - CAW Urges New Protections for Temporary Workers

TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - CAW President Ken Lewenza will make the case for
labour laws that provide greater protections for temporary workers at Ontario
Legislative hearings this afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Lewenza will urge the Legislative Committee to proceed with Bill 139 as
well as other amendments to the Employment Standards Act that would strengthen
the stated goal of greater fairness and protections for temporary agency
workers.

    Presentation Today:
    April 1 at 2:30 p.m.
    Ontario Legislature - Queen's Park
    Room 228
    Toronto, Ontario

"Increasingly as CAW members and other workers are laid off, they are
finding all that is available are precarious, lower-paid jobs through
temporary agencies, dramatically changing the employment landscape," said
Lewenza.
"We must push for strengthened legislation that will address the
inequalities inherent in the temporary agency system. We need to remove more
of the barriers to full-time work as well as other exploitative practices of
temporary agencies."
