LONDON, ON, June 24 /CNW/ - Members of the Canadian Auto Workers Local
636 will set up information pickets outside of the New County building in
Woodstock, Ontario on Wednesday June 25 to raise public awareness of the bully
negotiating tactics of Oxford County at three Woodingford Lodge nursing homes
in south-western Ontario.
What: CAW information picket and demonstration
Where: Outside the New County building in Woodstock - 415 Hunter Street
When: Wednesday June 25, 2008 - 6:00pm-7:00pm
During the last round of negotiations held on April 9 the County agreed
to withdraw all demands for concessions. With contract negotiations now
heading into third party arbitration, the employer has re-tabled some of the
initial concessions in their proposals to be submitted to the arbitrator -
despite the withdrawal of these proposals during negotiations.
"The company is clearly taking advantage of due process under Ontario
law," said Robert Buchanan, CAW staff representative. "This second attempt to
force concessions out of our members, even after we negotiated them away, is
bankrupt of good faith bargaining. Our members won't stand for that."
Picketers will attend the Oxford County council meeting scheduled for
7:00pm where CAW Woodingford Lodge Unit Chairperson Kelly Ann Heslinga will
address council members.
CAW Local 636 represents over 220 long-term care workers at three
Woodingford Lodge facilities in Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Ingersoll.
