World-recognized hydrogen and fuel cell sector presents opportunity for
Canada to capture green jobs and enhance its innovation capacity.
OTTAWA, Feb. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell
Association is leading a delegation of industry representatives to Ottawa on
February 10th and 11th to meet with parliamentarians and key Government of
Canada decision-makers to present how the hydrogen and fuel cell sector is
helping Canada meet its environmental challenges and establishing a foundation
of high-value, green collar jobs.
Hydrogen and fuel cell technology enable clean energy systems. In Canada
and abroad, they reduce the carbon impact of fossil fuels and supplement
renewable energy sources. The commercialization of hydrogen and fuel cells
presents significant economic opportunities with global sales predicted to
reach $8.5 billion in 2016.
The Canadian hydrogen and fuel cell sector is:
- A global leader in the development of hydrogen and fuel cell
technologies, due in part to early partnerships between the Government
of Canada and the sector,
- The largest clean energy research and development investor in Canada;
- Moving forward with important commercial product sales and advances in
Canada may soon lose its hard-earned competitive advantage as other
countries are ramping up their support for hydrogen and fuel cell development.
The Sector is doing its part but requires a long term partnership with the
Government of Canada comprised of three elements:
- Purchase incentive program for hydrogen and fuel cell products
- Targeted funding for research, development and demonstration
- Policy changes to improve industry access to capital.
Representatives from Canada's hydrogen and fuel cell industry will be
available for interviews on Tuesday February 10th and Wednesday February 11th.
