Media Advisory - Canadian Council for Tobacco Control Asks President Obama to Take Action on Cigarette Smuggling from U.S. to Canada

    OTTAWA, Feb. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - A 21-metre long banner will be unveiled by
the Canadian Council for Tobacco Control when U.S. President Barack Obama
arrives on Parliament Hill on Thursday February 19. The group wants President
Obama to take effective action to end the massive volume of smuggled
cigarettes originating in the U.S. and entering Canada.
The RCMP reports that cigarette smuggling from illegal, unlicensed
factories located in the U.S. at the Canadian border near Cornwall represents
the vast majority of cigarette contraband in Canada. This contraband is having
a very serious impact on public health, public revenue and public security in
Canada.
