Media Advisory - Canadian Armed Forces Chief of the Land Staff to speak on the future of Canada's army and our role in Afghanistan



    VANCOUVER, March 2 /CNW/ - Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie, Chief of the Land
Staff, Canadian Armed Forces, will discuss the role of Canada's armed forces
in Afghanistan at a Fraser Institute luncheon in Vancouver on Tuesday,
March 6.
    "Our aim in Afghanistan is to support the establishment of a stable
government and promote progress in the war ravaged nation," Lt.-Gen. Leslie
says.
    He will discuss barriers the armed forces are currently facing in
Afghanistan and the short-term and long-term strategies that Land Staff should
implement to overcome these obstacles.
    Lt.-Gen. Leslie was appointed Commander Task Force Kabul and Deputy
Commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in
Afghanistan in June 2003. He then became the Assistant Chief of the Land
Staff. In 2004, he pursued his PhD studies at the Royal Military College in
Kingston. He was appointed Director General Strategic Planning in Ottawa in
2005 and was promoted to his current rank and was appointed Chief of the Land
Staff in June 2006.
