    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 2007 marks the start, once again, of Breast Cancer Awareness
Month. During this month alone, it is estimated that close to 500 new
cases will be diagnosed in Quebec, meaning 115 cases on a weekly basis or
16 per day (close to 1,860 cases across the country: 430 per week or
    61 per day).
It is also estimated that, this year, breast cancer will cause the death
of 1,400 women in Quebec, meaning 27 women per week or 4 per day
(4,300 women across Canada: 102 per week or 15 per day).
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. One in nine
women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime, and one
in 27 will die of it.
