Media Advisory - Anishinabek Nation Grand Council to hold elections



    NIPISSING FN, June 5 /CNW/ - Elections for a new Grand Council Chief and
Deputy Grand Council Chief will take place at the Anishinabek Nation Special
Chiefs Assembly in Aamjiwnaang First Nation (Sarnia) on Tuesday, June 9, 2009.
    Current Grand Council Chief John Beaucage is stepping down to seek office
as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. The AFN general assembly
election takes place July 22, 2009 in Calgary.

              Glen Hare, Anishinabek Nation Chiefs and citizens of 41 member
              First Nations

    The Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians as its
secretariat in 1949. The UOI is a political advocate for 41 member First
Nations across Ontario. The Union of Ontario Indians is the oldest political
organization in Ontario and can trace its roots back to the Confederacy of
Three Fires, which existed long before European contact.
