Media advisory - A team of 300 corporate volunteers strong help the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club in an extreme makeover



    TORONTO, Oct. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - Employees from more than 20 national
corporations will step out of their offices, roll up their sleeves and
volunteer their time and skills at the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club this
Friday. A group of 300 volunteers strong, all encouraged by their employers to
donate their time in a collaborative effort in the communities in which they
work and live, will paint, decorate, build, remodel, and improve the building
that serves hundreds of children from the nearby Regent Park community.

    Time:      7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

               7:30 to 8:30 a.m. - Pancake breakfast and interview
               opportunities (opportunity for live feeds and remote news and
               weather reports)
               8:30 a.m. - Event kick-off. Speakers include Ruth MacKenzie,
               President, Volunteer Canada; Harry Taylor, Senior Vice-
               President Operations, The Home Depot Canada;  Donna Walwyn
               Board Chair, Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club.
               8:45 a.m. - Horn blows to kick-off the projects.
               3:30 p.m. - Board cutting ceremony with youth, corporate
               leaders, Volunteer Canada and the Toronto Kiwanis Boys and
               Girls Club to launch the newly renovated Boys and Girls Club
               (Strong video/photo opportunity)

    Photo, video and interview opportunities available throughout the day

    Projects include painting and decorating program rooms, building display
boards and AV cabinets, replacing flooring, and creating a large scale
partition wall intended for quiet homework space.
    The participating businesses are all members of the Corporate Council on
Volunteering, one of the largest corporate volunteerism initiatives in the
