Media Advisory - A magical night and a one-of-a-kind event in downtown Montreal: The Relay For Life organized by the Canadian Cancer Society

    MONTREAL, June 6 /CNW Telbec/ -

                         The Canadian Cancer Society
invites the media to attend the Relay For Life
                          on Friday, June 6th, 2008
                             starting at 6:30 pm
at the Parc Maisonneuve, in Montreal
(Parking lot on Sherbrooke Street, between Pie-IX Blvd. and Viau Street).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Relay For Life is a one-of-a-kind community event that recognizes the
courage of people living with cancer and honours the memory of loved ones
lost to the disease. It's a fun-filled 12-hour overnight event, where
teams of 10 people take turns walking around a track to raise money for
cancer research. Participants see the Relay as the perfect opportunity to
come together with family, friends and co-workers to celebrate cancer
survivors, remember loved ones who are fighting cancer or have lost their
battle, and fight back in the hope of finding a cure for this dreaded
    disease.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Various spokespeople from the Montreal Relay For Life,
including people with cancer or in remission, will be granting
                           interviews to the media.
Family and friends will also be in attendance.

Cameramen and photographers are invited to shoot on site:
a tent village, festive decorations, special ceremonies, and other
activities will also be on the agenda.

    - The Survivors' Cocktail Ceremony, at 6:30 pm, will allow media to meet
      cancer survivors and caregivers.
    - Every Relay opens with the Survivors' Victory Lap. The first walk
around the track, at 7 pm, is reserved for men and women with cancer or
      in remission.
    - Another powerful moment during the event is the Luminary Ceremony:
after sunset (9:30 pm), hundreds of candles are lit in honour of cancer
survivors and in memory of those who have lost their battle against
      cancer.

                             By June 21st, 2008,
61 Relay For Life events will take place all over the province.
Some 30,000 Quebec men and women will take part.
The provincial fundraising goal is $7.5 million.

                       Besides this event in Montreal,
