CP+B wins the Grand Effie for "Whopper Freakout"
NEW YORK, June 9 /CNW/ - MDC Partners Inc. and its agencies were big
winners at this year's 41st Annual Effie awards. The Effie Awards, a highly
prestigious awards competition, recognizes effectiveness among the marketing
Colle + McVoy took home two Gold Effies for Rhymesayers Entertainment and
Erbert + Gerberts Franchise Systems, Dotglu, part of Kirshenbaum Bond +
Partners, won a silver for their work on BMW of North America, and Crispin
Porter + Bogusky won a silver for Coke Zero, a bronze for Miller High Life and
the coveted Grand Effie (Best in Show), for their "Whopper Freakout" campaign
for Burger King.
"Burger King won the Grand Effie convincingly due to their boldness and
creativity across multiple media platforms, delivering real cultural relevance
and above all, outstanding business results," said Carl Johnson, Effie
Worldwide chairman and Anomaly co-founder, in a statement released by the
Whopper Freakout, a documentary style campaign, showed consumers
passionate reactions when they were told that the Whopper had been taken off
Burger King's menu. The work drove double-digit sales for the Whopper, and was
credited by Burger King with a 4.2% same store sales increase. It also
garnered a tremendous amount of buzz and attention, with 250,000 unique
visitors to WhopperFreakout.com in its first month. The original eight-minute
video (from which the television spots were cut) had gotten over 15 million
views by its second month, with a multitude of consumer generated imitations
CP+B's wins coupled with those of Colle + McVoy and Dotglu make MDC
Partners the second most awarded network at the Effies.
