McGuinty government congratulates new head of Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police



    TORONTO, June 28 /CNW/ - The Ontario government is pleased to
congratulate Toronto police chief Bill Blair in his new role as president of
the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), Community Safety and
Correctional Services Minister Monte Kwinter said today.
    "We look forward to working with Chief Blair in his role as OACP
president, and to continuing our positive working relationship with the OACP,"
said Kwinter. "The McGuinty government shares the OACP's commitment to
tackling the critical challenges facing law enforcement in Ontario today."
    Chief Blair, who will remain Toronto police chief, was sworn in on
June 27 at the conclusion of the OACP's 56th Annual Conference and Trade Show
in Waterloo.
    The association represents Ontario's chiefs of police and is committed to
excellence in police leadership and working together for safer communities.
The Ontario government recognizes the OACP's work and contributions and is
committed to working together with the association to build healthy and
prosperous communities throughout the province.
    The Ontario government also wishes to thank the OACP's outgoing
president, Peterborough police chief Terry McLaren, for his dedication,
service and commitment during his tenure.
    "Chief McLaren was outstanding as president and we thank him for his
service," Kwinter said. "Our government appreciates Chief McLaren's hard work,
and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
