McGowan undergoes successful shoulder surgery



    TORONTO, July 31 /CNW/ - Today RHP DUSTIN McGOWAN of the TORONTO BLUE
JAYS successfully underwent right shoulder debridement surgery performed by
Dr. Tim Kremchek in Cincinnati, Ohio.
    McGOWAN, 26, did not need re-constructive surgery performed on his
rotator cuff. The 6-3, 220lb. right-hander is expected to need eight to nine
months to recover from the debridement procedure and will begin a throwing
program in about four months.
    In 19 starts this season he has posted a 6-7 record with a 4.37 ERA with
one complete game and 85 strikeouts in 111 1/3 innings pitched. In parts of
four major league seasons he has posted a 20-22 record with a 4.71 ERA in 75
games, 56 starts.
