McDonald's(R) Makes Keeping New Year's Resolutions Easier

On-line nutrition calculator helps Canadians make informed choices when
    eating out

TORONTO, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - For the countless Canadians who are struggling to
balance their need for convenience and value with the desire to make more
balanced choices, McDonald's can help make it easier. McDonald's Canada is
encouraging them to take advantage of the numerous tools it provides for
accessing nutritional information for menu items at McDonald's.
"We believe customers should have the opportunity to know exactly what
they're eating," says Laurie Laykish, Senior Vice President of Marketing and
Strategic Planning, McDonald's Canada. "It's about getting the facts and not
denying yourself unnecessarily - there's probably a lot about McDonald's that
you don't know."
McDonald's has been an industry leader in providing nutritional
information for more than 30 years. Today, the most innovative and useful tool
is the Nutrition Calculator found on www.mcdonalds.ca. It's easy-to-use and
not only details the ingredients that make up the various menu items, but can
also calculate any additions or substitutions customers make to their meals -
making it a perfect tool for those who like to "hold the sauce" or even switch
up their side dishes.
"Dare to compare McDonald's products with those from other quick service
and casual restaurant menus," says Laykish. "You may be pleasantly surprised
by the great options that McDonald's has to offer."
It's no secret that many people eat breakfast on-the-go - making an
easy-to-use nutrition calculator an essential tool for those time-crunched
mornings. For example, a simple comparison of the Bacon 'n Egg McMuffin(R)
breakfast sandwich with a bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich served on a
tea biscuit from Tim Hortons shows that the Bacon 'n Egg McMuffin contains
nearly half the amount of fat and almost 100 less calories. According to the
Health Canada Nutrient File, even a regular bagel and cream cheese - a popular
breakfast option made at home - contains more fat and nearly 100 more
calories.
McDonald's menu items are even listed on the Weight Watchers point
system. The Fruit n' Yogurt Parfait(TM), for example, is an excellent snack
choice that fits perfectly into any personal points plan. Also, unlike meals
made at home, McDonald's consistent portion sizes make it easier to keep track
of what you're eating.
Complete nutritional information on all McDonald's menu items is also
available nationwide on in-restaurant posters and trayliners. In addition,
various individual product packages contain nutritional information as well.
