Mayor Tremblay's economic mission to China - Mayor of Montréal attends the international launching of the u/slic(TM) software

MONTREAL, Nov. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of his economic mission to China,
the Mayor of Montréal, Gérald Tremblay, today attended the international
launching, in Shanghai, of the multilingual, animated multimedia learning
software u/slic(TM), produced by the Montréal firm Unima. Unima officials took
advantage of the event to announce a distribution agreement with Dalian King's
Cultural Media Co. Ltd., which will begin marketing u/slic(TM) in China over
the next few weeks.
"This unique software, which was designed and developed in Montréal, is a
fine example of the creativity and innovation found in the city. This
launching reflects the dynamic information technology and new media industry
that thrives in Montréal," said Mayor Tremblay.
New technologies and innovative software developed by Montréal firms,
such as the u/slic(TM) software, are instrumental in raising international
standards and changing the way digital contents are produced around the world,
and how they are applied to learning or entertainment software, video game
design, as well as film and television animation.
Montréal ranks first in North America for its workforce specializing in
the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). The
fast-growing new media industry, alone, includes some 70 businesses employing
more than 5,000 workers. This dynamic industry is supported, namely, by
Alliance NumériQC, a Montréal-based industrial association made up of 200
member organizations with a mission to promote and accelerate the industry's
growth and competitiveness, as well as support their efforts to expand on the
international scene.
Alliance NumeriQC, together with the Ville de Montréal, developed the
"Montréal Digital in China" initiative, to help Québec firms, such as Unima,
to market their products in China and establish long-term partnerships with
the new Chinese media industry. China is among the liveliest markets in the
world in this field. The product launched by Unima is a result of this
initiative. Unima will focus mainly on the Shanghai and Dalian markets, with
the help of two Chinese distributors involved in the field of editing. The
u/slic(TM) software, aimed mainly at the institutional and education markets
for students five to 16 years of age, will be available in China in April
2008, and later in Québec, in August 2008.
The Mayor of Montréal is heading an economic mission in Shanghai and
Chengdu, China, accompanied by a delegation of more than 30 business leaders
and Montréal organizations. The goal of the mission is to promote Montréal
with potential investors and help businesses and member organizations, which
are part of the delegation, to establish partnerships in China. A number of
official visits and meetings are scheduled with dignitaries and investors in
those two cities, to highlight the strengths of Montréal, attract potential
investors and find funding opportunities for the private sector.
