REGINA, Feb. 11 /CNW/ - The Mayor of Winnipeg, Sam Katz, will be in
Regina to fulfill the remainder of a Grey Cup bet made with Mayor Pat Fiacco
prior to the 95th Grey Cup game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and
Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The bet between the Mayors was the losing Mayor would have to come to the
winning city and stand on the busiest street corner, with a sign declaring the
winning team as the best team in Canada. The Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23 to 19.
On Monday, February 11th, 2008 beginning at 12:00 pm Mayor Katz will be
on the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue, in the heart of The Green
Mile. He will be next a sign that reads, "I'm Sam Katz, Mayor of Winnipeg, and
I declare the Saskatchewan Roughriders the greatest team in Canada." He will
also be wearing a Rider jersey that reads "No. 2" symbolizing Winnipeg's
second place finish.
Mayor Fiacco wants as many Reginans as possible to show Mayor Katz their
Rider and community pride by coming by Albert St. and Victoria Avenue over the
lunch hour. "I want Mayor Katz to know the passion our citizens have for their
football team and the community."
The losing Mayor was also to wear the winning team's jersey at a council
meeting and buy four season tickets to the winning team that will be donated
to charity. Mayor Katz wore a Rider jersey to a council meeting just before
Christmas, and an announcement on where the tickets will be donated will be
made in the coming weeks.
