MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 23 /CNW/ - Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion has
been officially appointed to represent the Region of Peel on the Board of the
Greater Toronto Transportation Authority (GTTA). The official announcement was
made today by the Ontario Government's Ministry of Transportation.
"I am thrilled and honoured to represent the Region of Peel on the Board
of the GTTA," said Mayor McCallion. "Transit is the number one issue of
concern for residents in Brampton and Mississauga. I look forward to working
with Chair Rob MacIsaac and other GTTA Board members to help develop a
long-term, integrated transportation plan which will address these issues and
work toward solutions to easing gridlock."

municipal systems in the GTTA region, including the integration of routes,
fares and schedules. The GTTA will eventually assume responsibility for GO
Transit operations, the coordination of transit vehicle procurement on behalf
of Ontario municipalities, and the GTA Fare Card System.
