Mayhem Erupts on June 21 as The 2009 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS Return Live and Unapologetic

TORONTO, April 9 /CNW/ - Pop culture fanatics across the planet mark your
calendars for the only street-level award show on earth. MuchMusic announced
today that the most fan-friendly event of the year, the 2009 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO
AWARDS airs live from the station's headquarters in downtown Toronto on
Sunday, June 21. Fans are sure to be blown away with massive announcements
still to come.
Last year, hundreds of thousands of fans watched as torrential rain
soaked the MMVAs for the first time in history. But that didn't even come
close to dampening the spirits of screaming fans. This year, rain or shine,
MuchMusic once again throws it down.
"The MMVAs is Canada's Super Bowl for youth," said Brad Schwartz, Senior
Vice President and General Manager, Much MTV Group, CTV Inc. "The sheer
unpredictability of our live street party makes for a hell of an event for
every fan, whether watching live in person or from whatever device that makes
them happy. It's the single loudest and craziest party of the year and brings
together the biggest musical acts and celebrities in the world"
Last year's performers included Rihanna, Simple Plan, New Kids On The
Block, Hedley, Girlicious, Kardinal Offishall and Akon, Flo Rida, illScarlett,
Sean Kingston, and JabbaWockeeZ. The 2008 MMVAs festivities also included City
and Colour, Melanie C., Sum 41, Whitney Port, Bedouin Soundclash, Chace
Crawford, Rainn Wilson, Jesse McCartney, and more.
Previous years have featured the star-power of Fergie, Avril Lavigne,
Maroon 5, Alexisonfire, The Black Eyed Peas, Nelly Furtado, Fall Out Boy,
finger eleven, Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, The Killers, Lenny Kravitz, Joss
Stone, Britney Spears, Tori Spelling, Timbaland, and Kanye West.

star-packed Red Carpet special beforehand. Past years have seen kick-ass
performances by Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Simple Plan, New Kids On The Block,
City and Colour, Kanye West, Kardinal Offishall and Akon, Nelly Furtado,
Britney Spears, Hedley, The Killers, Fergie, and many more. At the MMVAs, the
