TORONTO, Nov. 14 /CNW/ - "As a father of eight, I can't think of anything
more important than the health and well-being of children," said Peter Gilgan,
President and CEO of Mattamy Homes at a reception at The Hospital For Sick
Children today as he presented a cheque for $500,000 to SickKids Foundation.
The funds for Pain Management were raised by pledges from Mattamy's
employees, business partners, corporations, friends and families for last
summer's third Mattamy Homes Tour de Blue - a bicycle ride from Vancouver to
Toronto. The Mattamy Foundation also contributed to the total. Among those
attending the event were Hospital representatives, medical professionals and
support staff, corporate sponsors, patients and families.
In the past, Mattamy Homes Tour de Blue raised funds for the renovation
of Marnie's Lounge - an area at SickKids where patients can play video games,
watch TV, listen to CDs, relax and have fun in other ways that make life more
Peter Gilgan said today, "I understand that pain is a challenge facing
most of the patients at SickKids," and added, "Of course, there's also
psychological stress both for the young patients and for the rest of their
family members as well. Mattamy is delighted to help Pain Management any way
Mr. Gilgan thanked and congratulated SickKids Foundation President
Michael O'Mahoney and his fine team for their dedication and excellent work in
encouraging support for The Hospital for Sick Children - well-known as a world
leader in children's health care.
