MARIO DUMONT STRIKES OUT AGAIN

    QUEBEC, Nov. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - The MNA for Laval-des-Rapides, Mr. Alain
Paquet, describes the motion deposed at the National Assembly last Tuesday by
the ADQ leader, Mario Dumont, meant to make the government fall regarding the
question of school boards, as worrisome and immature.
"Once again, the national weather vane, Mario Dumont, has done nothing
more than to take the flavour of the day and turn into a battle horse", stated
Mr. Paquet. "It takes a serious reason and legitimate motives to make the
government fall. Mr. Dumont is acting irresponsibly and wants to force Québec
into its second election in eight months", added the Laval-des-Rapides MNA.
The ADQ wants to abolish school boards and transfer their management
responsibilities to municipalities. Mario Dumont claims this will save
150 million dollars. However, a study produced by the Université de Montréal,
revealed that it would cost Québec taxpayers an additional 65 million dollars.
"The ADQ has no tangible solutions and throws around ideas without checking if
they are feasible", insisted Mr. Paquet. Moreover, Mario Dumont's right hand
man, Chauveau MNA, Mr. Gilles Taillon, was vice-president of the Fédération
des commissions scolaires du Québec in the 1990s. He was the great defender of
school boards then.
Furthermore, transferring school boards powers to municipalities requires
training and hiring personnel. This personnel would be hired according to
municipalities collective agreements, thus salaries will only be increased.
"Mario Dumont can describe/pride himself as the king of sound bites and gives
himself a grade of 100%, but he earns a zero when it comes to proposing any
solutions. Now there's a real report card with a numbered grade", noted the
Laval-des-Rapides MNA. "Once again, he has demonstrated his immaturity", added
Mr. Paquet
In 2006-2007, the government invested 13.4 billion dollars for education,
which represents 25% of the government's expenses. It represents a 20.3%
increase compared to the 2002-2003 situation. The government invested
6.23 billion dollars for school boards.
"Our political party has the education of young people at its heart and
we will continue to work for the well-being of those of the next generation",
concluded MNA Paquet.
