MONTREAL, March 13 /CNW Telbec/ - It's another day of March Madness today
at Concordia today as three CSN unions demonstrate at the corner of
Ste-Catherine and Guy streets during the lunch hour. Library workers,
technicians and support staff have been working with contracts for four years
(without salary increases for five years), and are ramping up pressure tactics
in an effort to get the attention of Concordia President Claude Lajeunesse.
In the past weeks Concordia workers have engaged in pressure tactics on a
daily basis, ranging from "dress down days," to noon-hour demonstrations to
tactics that disrupt the university's fax and phone systems.
Recall that, two weeks ago, the 454-member Concordia University Support
Staff Union (CUSSU) voted 87 per cent in favour of strike action over its
stalled contract talks.
CUSSU President André Legault, as well as the president of the Concordia
University Union of Support Staff - Technical sector, René Lalonde, and
Concordia University Library Employees Union President Irene Fernandez will
all be available for comment at today's demonstration.
