Manulife Mutual Funds announces five new mutual funds and T Class structure

    TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Manulife Mutual Funds, a division of Elliott &
Page Limited, announced a number of enhancements today, including a fund name
rebranding strategy, addition of five new mandates to its lineup of mutual
funds plus the addition of a mutual fund class that can provide tax-efficient
distributions to unitholders.

    -------

    Manulife Mutual Funds has launched a T Class structure, which provides a
monthly cash flow through distributions. The following group of nine funds
will offer the T class structure providing an attractive investment option for
investors looking for a tax-efficient means of generating income from their
mutual fund investments.

        Manulife Core Balanced Fund
        Manulife Real Return Strategy Fund
        Manulife Dividend Fund
        Manulife Global Dividend Fund
        Manulife Simplicity Income Portfolio

        Manulife Simplicity Global Balanced Portfolio
        Manulife Simplicity Growth Portfolio
    

    Five new mutual funds:
    ----------------------

    Manulife Real Return Strategy Fund - a core pension-style investment fund
that is designed to approach risk and returns differently than a typical
balanced fund. Features include a targeted return of CPI+5 per cent over a
market cycle, exposure to alternative asset classes, an active multi-strategy
asset allocation approach and true pension style asset management. The
strategic asset mix of this Fund will be managed by Steve Orlich,
Vice-President and Senior Portfolio Manager, who is responsible for the
management, consulting and product development of MFC Global Investment
Management's strategic asset allocation products. Jim Schetakis, Vice
President and Senior Portfolio Manager, will be managing the tactical shifts.
MFC Global is a leader in asset allocation strategies, managing over C$70
billion in these mandates on behalf of investors in Canada, the U.S. and Asia.

    Manulife Global Tactical Fund - also managed by Steve Orlich and Jim
Schetakis of MFC Global, the Fund uses a combination of strategic asset
allocation and tactical asset mixes to provide broad exposure to global equity
markets. The Fund takes advantage of Manulife's strong suite of global equity
funds and MFC Global's worldwide investment management expertise. The Fund
will invest directly in various global equity funds, with an emphasis on those
that are expected to provide the best opportunities in response to changing
economic and market conditions.

    Manulife Global Leaders Class - focuses on buying the best growth
companies in each sector anywhere in the world. Managed by Shauna Sexsmith,
Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager, Canadian Equities, for MFC Global
Investment Management, Shauna is known as one of Canada's most successful
growth managers.

    Manulife Emerging Markets Fund - takes advantage of the growth potential
inherent within emerging markets. The Fund will be managed by Steve Tyson,
Chief Investment Officer for MFC Global Investment Management (Europe) Ltd.,
London. Steve leads a team of investment professionals that focuses on
European, Asian and Global equity fund management for both Manulife,
institutional and retail clients.

    Manulife European Opportunities Fund - combines the stability of
established European countries with the growth potential of emerging countries
of Eastern Europe to create a focused portfolio of the manager's "best ideas"
in the region. The Fund will be managed by David Hussey, who is the Head of
Pan European Equities, for MFC Global Investment Management (Europe) Ltd.,
London.

    Rebranding Strategy
    -------------------

    As previously announced July 11, Manulife Investments has renamed the
Elliott & Page and Manulife Investment Exchange Funds Corp. (MIX) fund
families under Manulife Mutual Funds. This initiative has been undertaken to
capitalize on the strength of Manulife's brand and to simplify the naming
convention for both advisors and investors. Elliott & Page has been renamed to
Manulife Funds and MIX Funds has been renamed Manulife Corporate Classes.
There are no changes to Manulife Simplicity Portfolios.
