Mantis Mineral Corp. encouraged by drilling at Orphan

TORONTO, June 17 /CNW/ - Mantis Mineral Corp. ("Mantis" - CNQ "MINE") is
pleased to announce that 13 holes totaling 2600 meters have been completed at
its 100% owned Orphan Mine Project. Eight holes were drilled at the original
Orphan Mine site, which have been logged and sent for assays.
To the northwest at the Foisey site, 5 holes have been completed. To date
all of the holes at the Foisey, intersected mineralization. The deepest hole,
FSV08-3 at 250 meters had the best intersection with 91-meters of disseminated
pyrite, intermittent veining and strong alteration. All five holes to date
(with a total cumulated meterage of 779.7 meters) have intersected this
structure/alteration zone. Currently the zone has been delineated along a
450-meter strike length.
    From 100 -191-meters, a zone of intense multi-generational veining,
silicification, variable chloritization and hematization was observed. A fault
zone from 112.0 - 125.0-meters contains vuggy quartz and crushed quartz. There
are several types of alteration, including silicification, hematization,
carbonatization and sericitization. This whole section is mineralized with
disseminated pyrite, usually ranging from 1-5% with decimeter sections of 7%.
From 195-meters there is a 20-meter barren zone and then the hematization
picks up and pyrite content increases to about 3%. The hole ended at
250-meters in hematized intrusive with disseminated pyrite and open at depth.
Significantly, surface channel sampling (reported in press release dated
January 8, 2008) of trenches in the immediate vicinity of some of the current
drill collars yielded results up to 12.75 grams per tonne (0.369 opt).
The core is in the process of being logged and sampled. All core
intersections exhibiting mineralization and quartz veining are being cut in
half by a diamond saw. Half the core is retained for reference, while the
other half will be trucked by project management to ALS Chemex Laboratory in
Thunder Bay for analysis. Results from the first shipment of this core are
expected by end of July. It is anticipated this intitial phase of drilling
will total 3000-meters.
Caracle Creek International Consulting Inc. has been retained to monitor
the assay results and act as QA/QC for the program.
Mantis believes that the recent drill results, with the strong widths of
disseminated pyrite and intermittent veining could be of significant
importance if the assay results pending are favourable. Notwithstanding the
foregoing, visible observations are estimates only and pending assay results
may not confirm visual observations in whole or in part. The widths given
above are core widths only and do not represent true widths which cannot be
determined at this time.
Walter Hanych senior geologist, a qualified person, has reviewed the
drill core and confirms the visual descriptions described herein. Assay
results are pending for all holes completed to date.
