TORONTO, Aug. 26 /CNW/ - Mantis Mineral Corp. ("Mantis" - CNQ "MINE"). is
pleased to announce that it has begun a VTEM Survey over its 100% owned
3,870-hectare Grass River property. A total of 636-kilometers will be flown
over the 20-claim property.
The Grass River property is located in the Snow Lake portion of the
Flin-Flon greenstone belt and is favorably located in the same package of
volcanic rocks that host VMS Ventures' Reeds Lake discovery. VMS Ventures has
recently reported observations from a 39-drill hole program in which two holes
intersected 119.37 and 108.27-meters of near solid sulphides including 10.36%
copper over 33.46 meters. Grass River claims numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 directly
adjoin the claim block on which VMS reported its initial discovery hole,
laying as close as 2.4 kilometres from the discovery at the closest point.
SPECTREM anomalies were identified by Hudson Bay Exploration and
Development Corp. in 1994 on the Mantis property. Based on the fact the
Volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) conductors occur in clusters within a
volcanic environment, Mantis is confident that the survey that is currently
being flown over its strategically located property will identify high quality
anomalies warranting follow-up.
Volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits are an important host for
copper-zinc-silver and lead mineralization and contribute to 27% of Canada's
copper, 49% of its zinc, 20% of it lead and 40% of its silver production. The
Grass River claims lay in the Flin Flon - Snow Lake Volcanogenic Massive
Sulphide belt which is one of the most prolific Proterozoic belts in the world
with over 20 producing and past producing Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposits.
In another VMS play, Mantis has just completed a 314-kilometer VTEM
survey over its 24-claim, 2,768-hectare Thorburn property located
21-kilometers northwest of the giant Kidd Creek Copper/Zinc Mine. The data
from this survey is currently being processed and interpreted by Scott Hogg
and Associates. High priority targets from this survey will be drill tested
during the up-coming winter drilling season.
Recent results from the O.G.S. December 2005 have indicated the
postulated presence of a shear and a potential massive sulphide body. The
famous Kidd Creek Mines geological contact known as the Kidd-Munroe Sequence
has been identified to cross through the property.
