Made in Canada, eh? The Canadian Gift and Tableware Association Reports Canadian-made Products Top the List of Growth Categories in Retail

    - 'Made in Canada' Matters Most to Independent Giftware Retailers,
According to the Retail News MarketPulse Trend Report -

TORONTO, Aug. 11 /CNW/ - Canadian-made ranks first on the list of Top 10
retail growth categories, and the category is gaining momentum. According to
MarketPulse 2008, an industry trends report released by the Canadian Gift and
Tableware Association's (CGTA) Retail News Magazine, the majority of retailers
(54 per cent) reported year-over-year sales gains reflecting increased
strength among the Canadian giftware industry. Fifty-two per cent of retailers
carrying Canadian-made products plan to purchase more in the coming 12 months,
up from 34 per cent one year ago. The report coincides with The Fall 2008 CGTA
Gift Trade show, taking place in Toronto August 10th until 14th.
The CGTA Gift Show is Canada's premier gift trade show and is bigger and
better this year with more to see, more to do, and more to buy. The show will
feature over 150 exhibitors offering impressive displays of the best of what
Canada has to offer in exhibits of "homegrown" gifts, home accents, children's
products, gourmet foods, and seasonal and tabletop items manufactured or
hand-crafted exclusively in Canada. Canadian made product can be found in, but
not limited to, feature areas such as Showcase Canada, the Gallery and
Storeworks.
"The economic awareness and motivation to purchase Canadian manufactured
merchandise is strong, and buyers are reflecting this with their shopping
patterns," says Karen Bassels, CGTA Gift Show Manager. "The result is
increased buying and stocking of Canadian-made giftware which supports growth
among national producers. This growth also allows the talent and quality of
our country's products to continue to be showcased on the world-wide stage."
As the largest gift trade show held in Canada with more than 1.3 million
square feet of exhibition space throughout the International Centre, the
Congress Centre South Building and the new Congress Centre North Building, the
CGTA Gift Show is held twice annually, and features over 1,100 exhibitors, and
attracts over 20,000 retail buyers from Canada and around the world. The
addition of the 300,000 square foot, Congress Centre North Building offers
buyers a brand new, state-of-the-art exhibit facility to explore. This
addition enables the CGTA Gift Show to provide members with an unparalleled
trade forum to showcase new and innovative products, and Canadian-made goods
are proving to be attracting national and international buyers.
