A flexible, integrated, and cost-effective platform for proven and
established Xilinx OBSAI and CPRI reference designs
QUEBEC CITY, June 19 /CNW/ - Lyrtech Inc. (Lyrtech) (TSX Venture
Exchange: LYT), a worldwide leader in digital signal processing technologies,
announced today the launch of the OBSAI/CPRI Virtex-4 Development Platform. At
the heart of the platform are the new Xilinx OBSAI RP3/RP3-01 and CPRI
reference designs that were developed by Xilinx as part of its 3G Wireless
Base Station Initiative.
According to Dell'Oro, the base station market is already at the
$20 billion level and In-Stat projects 14% annual growth through 2009. The
Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI) and the Common Public Radio
Interface (CPRI) are two industry initiatives formed by major wireless OEMs
such as Nokia, Samsung, LG Electronics, Ericsson AB, Huawei Technologies, NEC
Corporation, Nortel Networks SA, and Siemens AG. These initiatives endeavor to
develop industry standards and create open markets for cellular base stations
that will allow manufacturers and component vendors to share a common
protocol, more easily adapt their products from one customer to another, and
reduce structure costs.
"Xilinx and our host of blue-chip partners are an integral part of
Lyrtech's strategy - helping us extend our reach, support a broader set of
customers, and develop new specialties in specific technologies and markets so
we can offer our customers more complete solutions," said Miguel Caron,
President and CEO of Lyrtech. "We look forward to more collaborative
The Lyrtech OBSAI/CPRI Virtex-4 Development Platform allows users to
create flexible CPRI and OBSAI RP3/RP3-01-compatible data sources, sinks, and
bus translation bridges for serial RapidIO and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
The platform also allows users to design high-speed serial OBSAI/CPRI data
connections from the onboard, high-performance clock circuitry.
"Base station and remote radio unit OEMs are increasingly making CPRI and
OBSAI interfaces a definite requirement. With the introduction of the
OBSAI/CPRI Virtex-4 Development Platform and available reference designs,
Lyrtech and Xilinx can significantly reduce engineers' development time on
OBSAI and CPRI applications," said Amit Dhir, director, Infrastructure
Vertical Markets at Xilinx.
Benoit Fleury, Lyrtech's Vice President of Sales and Marketing commented
that, "Lyrtech is proud to be recognized once again by Xillinx as an
industry-leading partner in the development of the OBSAI/CPRI Virtex-4
Development Platform. Wireless is one of Lyrtech's key expertise and focus
areas, and this OBSAI/CPRI project further builds on our leadership in
wireless design solutions."
