Lulu Takes the Hurt Away

Survey confirms that getting published is a major pain

RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 25 /CNW/ -- Being ignited in gasoline. Having your
fingernails torn out. Passing a kidney stone. Believe it or not some recently
surveyed Americans cited these extremes as being the only experiences more
painful than trying to get published.
Lulu.com recently commissioned Zogby International to ask 1,400 Americans
what they perceived is more painful than trying to get published. For nearly a
quarter of the respondents the answer was being rejected for a dream job.
Seventeen percent cited childbirth, a root canal (12%), public speaking (10%),
waiting for the cable guy (7%) and a paper cut (3%). Other answers included
gout, being a Democrat, being fired, and a few people said nothing was more
painful.
"These experiences are all extremely agonizing situations," said CEO and
founder of Lulu.com Bob Young, "Trying to get published in the traditional
sense is not a walk in the park and even if you do get published, there is no
guarantee you will make any money. What a waste of time! My own publishing
experience is exactly why I started Lulu; sharing and monetizing your creative
work shouldn't be impossible. Lulu.com brought publishing to the masses and
through our technology made the process easier and much more pleasant than
having gout."
With Lulu, once you've uploaded your project onto the site, becoming a
