OTTAWA, June 18 /CNW Telbec/ - Lifesavers David Byrd, Michael Byrd and
Gabriel Proulx are among the 33 (thirty three) Canadians being recognized by
the Order of St. John(*) at the Senate Chamber, Parliament Hill on June 20 at
"This year is particularly special as we recognize and honour
extraordinary charitable work and lifesaving skills," says John C. Mah,
Chancellor, St. John Ambulance Canada. In this case, the quick-thinking trio
rescued three trapped people from their burning, exploding vehicle following a
major collision. The rescuers suffered burns to their hands, arms and legs and
yet continued to care for the casualties until emergency services arrived.
"All three rescuers acted courageously and without hesitation. They're
recognized for their acts of gallantry, quick response, teamwork and for their
knowledge and use of first aid in saving three lives," says the Chancellor.
Also during the Investiture Ceremony, 30 outstanding Canadians will be
admitted to or promoted within the Order of St. John on behalf of Her Majesty,
Queen Elizabeth 11. Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean,
Governor General of Canada and Prior of the Priory of Canada, confers the
honour of the Order of St. John upon volunteers for their extraordinary
service to humanity. The 30 new investees are joining the 7,000-member Order
of St. John.
