TORONTO, March 5 /CNW/ - Lifford Wine Agency, one of Ontario's top wine
importers, is once again leading the pack. The very existence of the wine
industry is totally dependent upon a responsible and healthy relationship with
nature. Lifford president Steven Campbell recognizes that environmental
leadership is an urgent priority. As he likes to quote, "we have not inherited
the earth from our forefathers; we are merely borrowing it from our children."
Lifford Wine Agency takes great pride and pleasure in announcing their
status as a Carbon Neutral company. In 2007 Lifford became one of only two
GOLD MEMBER Tree Canada Carbon Neutral companies. This important environmental
stepping stone is achieved by offsetting and balancing the emissions created
by commercial activity. Careful calculations determine how many trees need be
planted to neutralize carbon output. In partnership with Tree Canada, Lifford
is planting trees across Ontario.
Lifford's 2007 carbon emissions will be offset within ten years by the
planting of 1,875 trees. In their average life span of 80 years, they will
continue to recapture carbon, equivalent to eight times the amount Lifford
will generate this year. Reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere
reduces the impact of global warming. Every tree planted is a step toward
solving this pressing problem. Lifford has chosen to be part of the solution.
The 4th annual Lifford Grand Tasting in May 2007 will once again be
Carbon Neutral. The impact of all the flights and car trips taken by the 40
international winery principals and wine makers and those of the 700 guests
will be calculated and trees will be planted accordingly.
As a responsible, forward thinking company, Lifford rounds out its
environmentally conscious approach to business by subscribing to Bullfrog
Power for all of its power needs. Bullfrog Power is the first 100% green
electricity retailer in Ontario. It buys power exclusively from wind and
low-impact hydro generators who meet or exceed the federal government's
Environmental Choice Program EcoLogo standard for renewable electricity.
