LifeSciences British Columbia in partnership with BIOTECanada, presents: Championing Biotechnology Discovery and Invention with Dr. Roberta Bondar

VANCOUVER, Sept. 21 /CNW/ - On Wednesday September 26, LifeSciences BC is
extremely proud to welcome Dr. Bondar to British Columbia for National
Biotechnology Week celebrations, in her role as the National Champion for
Biotechnology as selected by BIOTECanada.
Dr. Bondar demonstrates the adaptive thinking necessary for changing
perspectives in our contemporary world. Dr. Bondar has been recognized with
the Order of Canada, the Order of Ontario, the NASA Space Medal, inducted into
Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and into the International Women's Forum Hall of
Fame for her pioneering research in space medicine. In addition, she has
received 24 honorary doctorates from Canadian and American universities. In
2003 TIME magazine named her among North America's best explorers.
Since her work in space, she continued her discoveries for more than a
decade, finding new connections between recovering from new environments and
neurological illnesses such as stroke and Parkinson's disease. Dr. Bondar now
applies her insights to help leaders (and the rest of us) adapt to the
uncharted territory of work and life. From her own experiences aboard the
space shuttle Discovery, Dr. Bondar shows how lessons learned from space can
be applied to today's constantly changing business world.

About LifeSciences BC's Breakfast Speaking Series

The Breakfast Speaking Series, sponsored by KPMG & McCarthy Tétrault, is
LifeSciences BC's longest-standing event series - and one of our most popular.
Held four times a year, these breakfasts include two short presentations by
local biotech companies, followed by a keynote address of approximately
35-45 minutes by an industry or thought leader.
The September 26th event will be the first event held in British Columbia
as part of 2007 National Biotech Week, and will be our official kick-off for
the week.

    About the sanofi-aventis Biotechnology Challenge

The sanofi-aventis Biotech Challenge (SABC), coordinated by BC Biotech in
Vancouver, is a biotech competition for high school students from grades 9-12
and is one of 13 held nationally. This year LifeSciences British Columbia was
pleased to present $10,000 to the winning teams of the SABC competition at its
9th Annual BC Biotechnology Awards Ceremony. Each cash prize is split equally
between the team members and their respective schools to go towards their
science program.
