Legal proceedings of the Chief Electoral Officer under the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities - A guilty verdict is handed down in the Laurentides region



    QUEBEC, Feb. 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of
Québec, wishes to inform the public that a guilty verdict was handed down in a
case concerning a violation of the Act respecting elections and referendums in
municipalities (AERM).
    During the period leading up to the April 22, 2007 by-election in
Sainte-Adèle, Jovan Van Chesteing, in his capacity as official agent of
authorized independent candidate Domenico Scalise, incurred or authorized
election expenses exceeding the allowed maximum, as set in section 465 of the
Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities.
    At the time of the default hearing held on January 19, 2009, the judge
found the official agent guilty of the accusation brought against him and
ordered him to pay a fine of $1,000, plus expenses.
