TORONTO, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - Canada's leading legal expert in lobbying law is
available for comment on the City of Toronto Lobbying By-law, which takes
effect Monday, February 11.
Guy Giorno is co-author of the legal text Lobbying in Canada and a fierce
advocate of transparency and accountability laws to regulate lobbying. For
years he actively pressed Toronto to create a binding, enforceable registry of
lobbyists. Giorno welcomes City Council's final implementation of a lobbying
law, but has criticized how the by-law is drafted, particularly its complexity
and an excessive number of exemptions and carve-outs.
Giorno is able to provide assistance and comment to the news media on the
- how the by-law works
- implications for business
- critique of the by-law and why it should be stronger
- answers to technical questions
- what took the City so long
- what the by-law will mean to ordinary citizens
- and many others
Giorno, a partner at Fasken Martineau, has written and spoken extensively
on the need to regulate lobbying and related legal issues His work is posted
at www.LobbyingLaw.ca under "Publications" and "Presentations."
